KUALA LUMPUR: Flight data recorder (FCR) retrieved from the Indonesia AirAsia flight QZ8501 which has safely arrived in Jakarta is in good condition.
National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) Pilot investigator Captain Santoso Sayogo said they are in the midst of cleaning the black box before data from the equipment could be analysed.
“We are cleaning the flight data recorder with the help of experts from France. This process would take hours.
“The condition of the black box is good. We are trying to open the black box, hopefully the process would ends in several hours,” he told Indonesian-based newsportal MetroTVnews.com.
Asked on possibility that data from the black box maybe destroyed due to the crash, Santoso said NTSC has the mechanism to retrieve the vital information.
“If the black box could not work properly, we can move the recorder chip into a new FDR.
“It uses the same principle as the phone memory card except that it can store more data,” he said.
